1. Imitating Many Other Games
From unpleasant times, it is common for games to imitate or have similarities with other games. From ancient tabletop games like chess to modern tabletop games like Warhammer 40k. However, there have been rumors that Genshin Impact heavily imitates Zelda Breath Of The Wild, from its open-world design filled with grassy fields to features like climbing and gliding, and even some attack animations are similar.
If people are not familiar with the details, it’s possible for the two images to look like they belong to the same game but in different locations.
Apart from Zelda BOTW, there are also rumors that there is a Genshin song that sounds very similar to Final Fantasy, specifically the original version of the gacha menu song that has been changed in the latest version.
Upon closer inspection, it can be seen that there are actually many games with similar world designs and features such as climbing, gliding, and vast grassy areas. However, for some reason, Genshin seems to be particularly disliked for these aspects.
2. The game was released before it was finished
Genshin was released on September 28, 2020, and it has been 1 year and 4 months since its release. Players have already received an additional city. From Genshin’s own plans, they aim to release one city per year. If we look closely, there is already a considerable amount of content for players, but some players feel that the game is unfinished and that it relies too heavily on repetitive events and reused assets.
3. Not comfortable on mobile
Did you know that Genshin on Android does not support joysticks? I have tried connecting various types of controllers, but it doesn’t work. In my opinion, playing the game on Android using touchscreen controls is not very comfortable. I really wish I could use a controller to make it a bit more enjoyable, but unfortunately, it’s not possible.
Not to mention that it requires a smartphone with fairly high specifications to play it smoothly. Even with high-spec devices, they tend to get hot and even hang when playing at maximum settings.
This game is known for frequent updates, and each update can consume a significant amount of data for those without unlimited internet.
I vividly remember the words of my friend, “When Genshin first came out, my phone could handle it. Now (4 months later), it can’t even reach 30 fps.” As a PC player of Genshin, I personally haven’t experienced this issue. However, if it were to happen to me, I wouldn’t enjoy the game either.
4. Forcing You to Spend Money
Even though the game is free to play, Genshin Impact’s developers certainly have their own tricks to encourage players to spend money, for example:
Some of my friends feel that every time they change the character gacha banner, the stages and events become much easier if they use the new character.
There are also stages that seem to be intentionally made very difficult and will become easier if we obtain a new weapon, which means we have to do the gacha.
There are also artifact gachas that are highly unpredictable, even if you’ve topped up, there’s no guarantee of getting good ones.
All of these factors force players to do top-ups and eventually purchase in-game currency.
5. The community is filled with a lot of drama
Throughout my time following the Genshin community, there always seems to be community drama accompanying each update. Some boast about their free-to-play status, which the community may not appreciate, while others complain about specific characters, causing the community to be divided between likes and dislikes, resulting in attacks against one another. It’s quite remarkable.
6. The Resin system that governs players
There is a daily limit to the amount of Resin that can be collected, and it remains fixed. However, engaging in important activities in Genshin requires Resin. This has caused many players to dislike the system. Some players want to play but cannot because they do not have enough Resin. Others feel obligated to spend their Resin every day and see it as a burden.
Many players feel that they are being controlled by the game, and this is something that many of them dislike. The Resin system also contributes to this sentiment, as it creates a disparity between new players and veteran players.
7. The game tends to drag players along
Players often feel dragged along by the game. This game is still unfinished, and every time the main event ends, it introduces smaller events at regular intervals. Sometimes players are left with no events at all, and they are left to complete daily missions only. These missions often become repetitive and dull, leading to a sense of boredom.
However, despite the boredom, the resin system requires players to constantly spend resin each day if they want to strengthen their characters. Many players feel obligated to log in and spend their resin.
